Question: Why is it
important to make the right choices when ordering food at “Fast
Food” restaurants?
What
you will Learn:
1. How to use the
internet for food research.
2. How to create a
spreadsheet in Microsoft Excel
3. How to create a
PowerPoint presentation of your findings.
4. Import graphics
from the internet into a PowerPoint.
5. How to compare
and contrast menus from various “Fast Food” restaurants.
6. Compare
“Fast Food” meals to USDA guidelines on healthy eating.
Directions:
1. Students will
view the educational enhanced version of “Super Size Me” by Morgan
Spurlock. This will be used as an introduction the lesson. Students will
participate in discussion group about the movie and the implications it may
have on their eating habits. You will fill out the “Watching Guide”
for a grade. (20 points)
2. Create a
PowerPoint with the following slides: (60 points total)
PowerPoint
requirements: 1. Make every slide blank. 2. Change all backgrounds. 3. Title in Word art. 4. One picture per slide. 5. One custom animation per
slide.

*USDA Guidelines ( Type the answers to your questions)
*Comparison Which of the three meals is the
healthiest?(Give the percentage of Total Calories vs. USDA Calories for all 3
meals and do the same for the fat) Use
your Excel chart for the data. Click here for a

*Super Size Me (Pretend you are Morgan Spurlock. Write
a two paragraph apology letter to your body for making it suffer so much. Be
sure to include your heart, liver, brain, stomach, and weight. Also, tell your
body what you plan on doing to make it feel better.)
*What I learned (Answer the Essential Question in 2 or
more paragraphs.) Also tell me how many pounds of fat you would eat in a year
if you ate each of your fast food meals 1 time a week for 1 year (52 Weeks). Be
sure to convert grams to pounds. Use this formula:
total grams divided by 454. Example: 2860 grams of fat divided by 454 equals
6.2 pounds of fat. Put fat grams in the calculator first, then hit the divide
sign and enter in 454.
3. Students will
create a meal from one of the following fast food companies website. After
creating the meal, type each meal and name of company on a PowerPoint Slide.
This will be slide number 2-4

Each meal should have a
sandwich or main dish, a side item (Chips, Potato, or Fries), drink, and
dessert.
4. Create a
spreadsheet chart in MS
Excel and type in the following information: (This
is for academic reason’s only. This doesn’t belong in your
PowerPoint. I’ll grade it separately.) (20 points total)

5. Explore the
USDA Pyramid. Visit the USDA Pyramid website. View the video clip of the new Pyramid
(click “PC User”, then Play). After viewing video, click this link
“Inside the Pyramid”
and answer the following questions. Type your answers in Slide 5.
A. How many ounces
of grains should you eat?
B. What’s
the difference between whole grain and refined grain? Give an example of both.
C. Give one
example from each of the 5 vegetable subgroups.
D. Does 100% fruit
juice count as a fruit?
E. List 3 types of
fruits.
F. Does Ice cream
count as a dairy serving?
G. What about
pudding?
H. What type of meat
should you choose to eat? Lean or Regular
J. Name a fish, a
seed or nut, and a bean that is a good choice to eat.
