Introduction:
What do you really do all day long? Have you ever been asked, “What did you do today at school?” Let me guess, I bet you said, “ Nothing.” Here’s your opportunity to really document what you do in a day. You will be in charge of documenting a day of your life. You will need to take a picture of every hour you are awake. From the time you wake to the time you go to bed. Take a picture of something that is going on during that hour. You can be in the picture or it could be of something you are doing or looking at for that moment. If it is a school day, please check with your teachers to let them know you will be taking one picture of something going on in the class. I will also email the teachers in advance to let them know about the project.
Lesson:
1. You will need to view Photography 101 to learn some of the basics of cameras and how to use them. Copy and Paste the questions below into a Microsoft Word document, then answer them. Save them into “Thawspace” with the title lastnamephoto. To help guide you through your research, everyone will need to answer the following questions.
A. What does the word photography mean?
B. Who was the first person to use the word photography?
C. What are the two scientific processes used in photography?
D. Describe to me how a single-use camera looks.
E. Name three types of cameras.
F. What is 100 speed film used for in photography?
G. Cameron wants to take some pictures at the track meet. It will be sunny at the beginning and darker towards sunset. What type of film should Cameron use at the track meet? Explain your answer.
H. What is the purpose of taking a picture?
I. What does “simplicity” mean in terms of taking a picture?
J. How can you change the viewpoint of a picture?
K. Describe the rule of thirds.
2. You will be issued a disposable camera for you to keep. We will pick a day to document and you will be responsible for taking the camera with you. Here’s some examples of things to think about:
Morning Activities: Eating breakfast or brushing your teeth.
School Activities: Picture of teacher, book being used in class, notes on the whiteboard, or Sloppy Joes from the lunch room.
After School: Baseball, Cheerleading, or Track practice, doing homework, watching TV.
Night Activities: Eating dinner, TV, Chatting online or talking on the phone.
Try your best to get a picture per hour!
3. Once we get our pictures back from the store, we will create a PowerPoint presentation to display are life. Here’s how your PowerPoint shell should be developed.
Introduction: A day in the life of (your name here) and a picture of yourself
Slides 2-?Each one of these slides should represent an hour of your day. Each slide needs to have the hour of the day and 3-4 sentences describing how the picture represents what you did for that hour. Click here for tutorial reviews: Blank Slides, Text Box, Word Art (Same as MS Word), and General PowerPoint Information.
Conclusion Slide: This slide needs to answer the essential question above. You must analyze your day in-depth to answer this question. A minimum of 2 paragraphs is required. When analyzing your pictures/day be sure to think about what you can do to improve those activities or your life in general.
4. You will present your project to the class. Be prepared to describe your day to the class in a 5 minute presentation. You will be evaluated on the PowerPoint and Speech only, not on the artistic merit of your pictures. However, pictures that the teacher or class find very cool will give you a higher grade.
